Street Photography

Saturday 13 June

Drake Dyck
The power of observation underpins the art of great street photography, learning to "see" interesting detail is a practised skill.

Join Photographer Ron Pogue and open your photographer's eye. We will expose you to a world that is alive with detail, people, cafes, vendors, street merchants, buskers, historic buildings, art installations and much more.

We will also go over settings, focusing techniques and lens choices common to street photography to help us capture random chance encounters. The most rewarding part of the class is gaining the confidence to approach interesting people and have them willingly pose for you.

I really enjoyed Dave?s photography class. He explained the basic concepts of photography very thoroughly and highlighted what?s most important in a clear, practical way. Since there were only two of us in the class, it felt like a personal training session. We took a lot of photos, and Dave helped me adjust my camera settings, reviewed my shots, and explained what I did well and what I could improve. He?s also a very interesting instructor?he shared some of his own street photography, especially portraits of people, which was inspiring and engaging. This class definitely rekindled my interest in photography, and I highly recommend it.

This course turned out to be not exactly what I thought it was going to be, but it was still very informative and very helpful. The instructor was great at explaining things. But I thought we were gonna learn how to take a fantastic photo, but it turned out to be more about posing people and stuff like that which was still super helpful but just wasn?t what I expected, that?s all.

I just wanted to say I enjoyed the event very much. I am new to DSLR and the instructor spent quite a bit of time with me helping me with settings. I am very old school SLR and forgot a lot of things as well. She was patient, lots of fun and gave a different perspective to portraits from what I learned in school several years ago. I really appreciated her creative process and it will make me better at my craft as a result. I loved the location as well. I will be attending future events!

Attending the portrait photo workshop was an enriching experience. I learned a great deal about the importance of interacting with the subject, which is crucial for capturing the emotions that truly convey the story behind the photo. The workshop emphasized how building rapport with the model can help guide their expressions and poses, resulting in more authentic and impactful portraits. I also gained valuable insights into using lighting effectively in portrait photography. Overall, the workshop gave me a deeper appreciation of the creative process behind portrait photography.

This was highly informative. As a total newbie I learnt so much about Portrait photography. Zanhetti is clearly very experienced in this field both in front and behind the camera. She helped us think a lot about the process, and gave a tremendous amount of useful tips. She made a point of regularly looking at our images and gave us individual feedback which was very helpful.

As I was cleaning up my backyard in the fall of 2020, I noticed that the spiders were out in full force, preparing for the winter as well. Seizing any opportunity to avoid yard work, I grabbed my camera. I made a photo study of one particularly industrious spider who was thoughtful enough to build their web in a beautiful splash of light.400 mm, f/5.6, 1/800 sec, ISO 1250Mark Thompson, Victoria, BC
